Schedule AC Repair Before Winter Hits

It may sound silly to schedule a maintenance visit for your air conditioner in the fall, but it’s actually a really smart idea! If you’ve noticed the air conditioning in your home steadily getting worse over the summer, it's better to have it looked at now than waiting until next spring or summer. This gives you time to repair the problem or have the unit replaced during the winter months. Then, when next summer hits, you’re not stuck in 90 degree heat with no air conditioning!

Signs of AC Problems

The most obvious indicator that your AC unit is in need of repair is warm air blowing out of the vents. The entire purpose of the air conditioner is to cool down your home. If you’re not cool, it’s not working. Along the same lines, if your vents are hardly emitting any air at all, whether cold or warm, you could have a blockage somewhere in the ducts.

When you turn the air conditioning unit on, you shouldn’t smell any bad odors or hear any loud noises. If you do, it’s time to call for AC repair. You should also check that your thermostat is working properly. Since this device controls your unit, any issues with it may appear as issues with your air conditioner.

Some signs of AC problems may appear more gradually. Consider how often you’re calling for AC repair now, compared to a few years ago. Is it significantly more? If so, you may be approaching the end of your AC unit’s lifespan. Also take a look at your energy bills. Have they increasingly cost you more over time? If yes, you may have problems with your air conditioner’s efficiency that need to be addressed.
